About the EMS Programs

Students learn to provide care in increasingly complex situations through an integrated approach to theory, practice, and high-fidelity simulation in a real-world environment. We provide opportunities to complete field rotations in busy urban ALS systems.

The mission of MassBay’s EMS educational programs is to train and educate emergency medical professionals to excel in meeting the needs of the community they serve.

Program Effectiveness Data

  • Students will complete the program.
  • Students will pass the NREMT certification on the first attempt.
  • Graduates will be gainfully employed within six months post-graduation.

MassBay EMS Accreditation & Program Effectiveness Data

The curriculum for MassBay’s EMT and Paramedicine programs follows the requirements established by the Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and all guidelines set by the NHTSA: National EMS Education Standards, Instructional Guidelines, and the National EMS Scope of Practice Model. All courses include application and instruction in the most current Massachusetts EMS Statewide Treatment Protocols. In addition, students participate in clinical and field experiences at the appropriate level to prepare for entry-level practice.

Additionally, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), upon recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Profession (CoAEMSP), has awarded accreditation to the Paramedic Program.

MassBay’s EMS Advisory Committee

MassBay’s EMS Department has an Advisory Committee, which meets biannually. The role of the Committee is to assist the EMS Programs and sponsor personnel in formulating and periodically revising appropriate goals and learning domains, monitoring the needs and expectations, ensuring program responsiveness to change, and reviewing and endorsing the program's minimum numbers of patient contacts.
