PLACEMENT TESTING
All new MassBay students seeking an Associates Degree (and a few who are seeking certificates) are required by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education to meet placement testing requirements soon after being accepted to the College. Your acceptance letter and Bay Navigator “To Do” list will tell you whether you have met the requirement or if you need to complete the English and Math Placement requirements. If you have questions about your application, please contact the Admissions Office at admissions@massbay.edu. Placement tests determine the English and math classes with which you will begin your academic career. Here is the link to schedule a placement test.
The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) offers Placement Testing Workshops (Free English and Math Placement Test PREPARATION), Placement Testing (English and Math Placement), and Make-Up Testing (for missed class tests, which are arranged by faculty).
The following Placement Tests are required for new students:
- Mathematics.
- English (Writing & Reading) for native speakers OR English as a Second Language (ESL).
Math and English Placement Tests together take approximately three (3) hours to complete.
A photo ID and an appointment are required to take a test in the AAC.
Not sure which test to take? Have you taken the tests elsewhere or have transfer credits?
