WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (November 1, 2024) — MassBay Community College’s Marketing and Communications Office was recently honored by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) at the District 1 Conference in Baltimore, MD with five Medallion Awards. Medallion Awards are awarded to NCMPR members in multiple categories, highlighting the “best of” in marketing, communications, and design. 

Each year, NCMPR hosts regional conferences in the fall for its seven districts and a national conference in the spring. District 1 includes MassBay, along with other two-year community and technical colleges from Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec, and the United Kingdom.

MassBay’s Medallion Awards included: 
— Gold, Logo Wear, featuring the MassBay American Sign Language (ASL) T-shirt, with MassBay spelled out in ASL across the front, ASL I love you sign on the sleeve, and MassBay’s logo on the other sleeve.
— Gold, Successful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Marketing, highlighting MassBay’s conference room dedication to the late Virginius B. Thornton III who served the college as a professor of history and was a civil rights leader. This dedication, which happen during Black History Month, also incorporated a guest speaker of Massachusetts Chief Court Justice Kimberly Budd and a reception for guests to see the dedicated space with photos of Professor Thornton.
— Silver, Interior Signage/Displays (single or series), showcasing the updated signage at the College’s Ashland campus, which featured new framed photos of cars from the MassBay All Vehicle Show and new cling graphics with the College’s logo.
— Bronze, Communication Success Story, highlighting MassBay’s 2024 graduate Shelly Smith who completed her degree after a 29-year journey at MassBay.
— Bronze, E-Publications, showcasing the College’s 2022-2023 Annual Report.

MassBay Associate Director of Public Relations Liz Cooper was awarded the Communicator of the Year award for NCMPR District 1 at the conference. The Communicator of the Year award is one of the most prestigious awards presented to a NCMPR member who has demonstrated leadership and success in the area of college communications, presented to a marketing and communication professional at a two-year community and technical college who works to position a college firmly in the public consciousness.

“We are delighted to be recognized for the work of our outstanding marketing team at MassBay,” said Jeremy Solomon, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Marketing & Communications. “The Medallion Awards recognize the best work in our field, and our team is grateful to NCMPR for these honors. Our team is high performing, always striving for new ways to promote our college and support our students in their higher education journey.”

The Marketing & Communications team at MassBay is comprised of Solomon, Cooper, Marketing Project Manager Deni Budd, Web Developer Wendy Walsh, Graphic Designer Nate Principato, and Marketing Content Strategist Ashanty Valentin.

The NCMPR District 1 conference centered around a series of workshops and breakout sessions to improve innovation and creativity focused on marketing, public relations, media relations, graphic design, website design, and other marketing and communication roles for two-year college professionals.
