Dean of STEM

Dr. Sevian joined MassBay as Dean of STEM in July 2024. Before this, she was a chemistry professor at UMass Boston, where she began in 2001, and more recently was associate provost. Before that, she was a science teacher for 6 years in the Spanish bilingual program at Chelsea High School. Her academic training includes chemical engineering, theoretical chemical physics, and experimental materials science. Her research centers on chemistry learning that is proactively inclusive, recognizes and builds on students’ cultural assets, and creates opportunities for students to connect school to their lives and careers. She has published 50+ research papers in chemistry, chemistry education, and science education, and has led $26m in external grants.
