After two decades in the accounting and strategy fields, Johanna fulfilled her dream of teaching by joining the faculty at MassBay. Passionate about lifelong learning, she strives to instill this love in her students while exposing them to the accounting field’s practicality and versatility. Connecting with students and getting to know them individually is one of her daily key goals. Johanna is a certified Public Accountant and obtained her MBA at the University of Wales, Cardif (UK). She has lived in four different countries, is bilingual in English and Spanish, and loves to embarrass herself with her rudimentary French and Arabic.
Dr. Khaitan is an experienced professor of Accounting and Hindu Studies. Dr. Khaitan opens most classes with an optional guided meditation. She is a native of India and educated in West Africa, Northern Ireland, and the United States, and her Hindu roots remain a constant in her life. Dr. Khaitan reflects that teaching is “rewarding for the soul... When you have a good class and students who understand a difficult concept, it’s tremendously uplifting.” During her sabbatical, she saw the successful publication of her doctoral thesis, “Right Action — Key to Liberation and a Part of All Paths in the Bhagavad Gita,” and received her doctorate in Hindu Studies in Yoga Philosophy and Meditation. Dr. Khaitan is currently working on a new project entitled, “Meditation: Key to Dissolving Stress.” She received her CPA certification and worked as an internal auditor for a Fortune 500 firm.
MassBay Accounting Program is proud to be the first community college in Massachusetts to establish a local chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), a nonprofit members association dedicated to bridging the opportunity gap for Black business leaders in the fields of accounting, finance, and entrepreneurship. NABA, Inc. focuses on advancing individuals and careers by providing education, resources, and meaningful connections to professionals and student members. At MassBay, our NABA chapter is unique as it also established a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Through this partnership, each student member is paired with a Professional Mentor, an experienced business professional dedicated it student success.
