In September 2018, MassBay Community College was awarded a 2.2 million dollar Title III-A Strengthening Institutions federal grant. MassBay’s grant — Reimagining the Path to Student Success: Advancing the Whole Student at the Community College — is funding college-wide efforts to improve the ways we set up students to succeed when they enter the College as well as the ways we ensure progress to eventual degree completion or successful transfer to a four-year college. The grant funds four projects:
- The implementation of a Guided Pathways model, including a first-year success course, the creation of program Academies and enhanced advising;
- The establishment of The Institute for Trauma, Adversity, and Resilience in Higher Education, including research, training and the incorporation of trauma-informed practices across the college;
- The development and expansion of co-requisite math and English course models; and
- The planning and creation of student-centered spaces on campus that will promote a sense of community, provide space for engaging with peers, and improve the overall student experience.
This 5-year project (2018-2023) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
