WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (June 2019) — MassBay Community College is pleased to announce Brian Sherry of Needham, MA, has been named MassBay’s new Student Trustee.

Sherry is a Liberal Arts major, and this fall he will begin his second year at MassBay. He is a former Student Government Association (SGA) Senator, a member of the investment club, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, the student member for the MassBay Foundation Board, and a peer tutor in the Academic Achievement Center (AAC), helping students with their studies in chemistry, biology, and math. He plans to graduate in May 2020 and transfer to a four-year university to continue his studies in science. Sherry also encouraged his mom to attend classes at MassBay, and she started in the spring of 2019 and will be returning in the fall, along with her son, to continue her education.

While serving on the Board of Trustees, his biggest priority is supporting students to understand who they are and where they would like to be in their future pursuit of education and career. “I want every student to understand you can accomplish something you’ve never accomplished before, and you can overcome your struggles and succeed,” said Sherry. “MassBay has given me new life and I hope, in turn, I can help breathe new life into all of my peers.”

Sherry attended and graduated Needham High School, before heading to a university in Rhode Island and taking some time off to travel and rediscover his passions. He was sworn-in at Needham Town Hall on June 7, 2019, and attended his first Board of Trustees meeting on June 11, 2019.
