WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (July 2019) – MassBay Community College Athletics is pleased to announce Men’s Basketball Guard and General Studies major, Alec Zaccardo of Lincoln, MA, will transfer to Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and has made their Division I Men’s Basketball team.
“I am very proud of Alec and all of the hard work that he has put in both on and off the court,” said MassBay Athletic Director, Adam Nelson. “He is the true definition of a student-athlete! I am excited that he has decided to attend an academically superior university like Tulane, while also having the opportunity to continue his athletic career on the court at a Division I school. Coach Hunter and his staff are getting not only a quality player, but a quality person as well.”
Zaccardo played one season with the MassBay Buccaneers and averaged 12 points, two assists, two rebounds, and one steal per game, while shooting 40 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range. His career highlights include being ranked third by the NJCAA Region 21 for his 67 3-point shots, being named MVP of the 2018 Westchester Tipoff Tournament, and scoring a season-high 33 points against Quinsigamond Community College. Zaccardo was an academic all-star as well, making Dean’s List both semesters he was enrolled at MassBay, posting a GPA of 3.95.
“I had a great experience at MassBay,” said Zaccardo. “They helped me improve my academic abilities and helped me extend my basketball career. The opportunity to attend and play basketball at a Division I school like Tulane is something that very few people get to do in their lifetime. I cherish this moment and hope to carry over what I have learned at MassBay to the next chapter in my life at Tulane University.”
Before coming to MassBay in the fall 2018, Zaccardo played basketball at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School and helped the LS Warriors make their first playoff appearance in five years in 2018. He also ran the 800 meters on the Lincoln-Sudbury track team.
Athletics runs in the Zaccardo family, his brother Otto, is a running back for the Syracuse University Orange and studies Economics. Zaccardo will also study Economics at Tulane University.
