Bioinformatics in Biology — Presentation
Tuesday, April 13, 2021
11:30am-12:30pm
Learn About
- The importance of bioinformatics in modern biology
- The skills and experiences required in the field
- Potential career paths in bioinformatics
Panelists Include
Nick Rhind
Professor, UMass Medical School
BA, Science; BS, Mathematics, Brown University Ph.D., Molecular & Cell Biology, U.C. Berkeley
Dr. Rhind found his passion for Biology during undergraduate. Following graduate school, he moved to the Scripps Research Institute to study cell-cycle regulation in fission yeast. He became interested in how and why cells regulate the cell cycle in response to DNA damage. He has continued with that line of research in his own laboratory at UMass Medical School, focusing on the regulation of DNA replication by DNA damage.
Jill Moore
ENCODE DAC Project Manager, UMass Medical School
BS, Applied Mathematics, Biology & Chemistry minor, UMass Amherst
Ph.D., Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, UMass Medical School
Dr. Moore is the Project Manager for the ENCODE Data Analysis Center. She has been a member of ZLab since 2017. Her research has focused on the large scale integration of genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic datasets to better understand gene regulation, particularly in the context of human disease.
