WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (May 11, 2022) — Tahlia Butler of Bedford, MA, has been selected to sing the national anthem at the 60th Commencement Exercises of MassBay Community College, to be held Thursday, May 26, 2022, on its Wellesley Hills campus.
“I am excited for the opportunity to represent the students of MassBay and to honor our 2022 graduates,” said Butler. “It is also, really cool to be singing with The Wellesley Symphony Orchestra.” The Wellesley Symphony Orchestra has been MassBay’s orchestra-in-residence since 1984.
Butler, a general studies science student, always loved singing and being involved in theater. During her middle and high school years, she participated in school choir programs. Since starting at MassBay in fall 2021, Butler has been involved in campus life. She is a senator in the Student Government Association, president of the MassBay Film Society, and student ambassador for the Students of Color Program. She recently completed MassBay’s Leadership Engagement and Development (LEAD) program and is an advocate for mental health, especially amongst her peers.
Butler is scheduled to graduate from MassBay in May 2023 and will transfer to a four-year university to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
