WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (May 3, 2023) — MassBay Community College’s Department of Athletics has named David Lee as the Buccaneers first Head Coach of Unified Sports at the college.
Coach Lee has already launched practices for MassBay’s Unified basketball, making MassBay the first community college in Massachusetts with a Unified Sports team.
According to the Special Olympics website, Unified Sports teams were created to promote social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. The concept was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
“MassBay believes in inclusion for all, and we are proud to support our student athletes of all abilities,” said MassBay Director of Athletics, Adam Nelson. “Unified Sports adds to our athletic program, and we know Coach Lee will building a solid foundation for all students to thrive at MassBay.”
Lee has seven years of coaching experience in wrestling and baseball at both the high school and youth levels. From 2017 until 2021, Lee was an Assistant Wrestling Coach for Brookline High School, supporting athletes as they prepared for college academics and athletics. While at Brookline High School, Coach Lee’s team went on to win two Bay State Conference Championships, and he coached multiple individuals who earned spots as Divisional State Champions and an All-State Champion. He also coached baseball for the Brookline Youth Athletics system for three years prior to accepting a head coaching position with the Boston Prime Baseball.
Lee is currently a counseling intern in the MassBay counseling office and will be graduating in May 2023 with a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. He is very excited to be able to support MassBay students on and off the court.

I look forward to building this program for the students of today and tomorrow.”
