Guest speaker: Dr. Romesh Subramanian
Gene therapy is an exciting approach to treat devastating diseases and help patients. The term 'gene therapy' spans a wide range of possible modalities for disease treatment. The presentation will focus on RNA-based gene therapies that are emerging technologies and have the potential to become the standard of care in medicine. First, mRNA therapy is demonstrating efficacy in combating infectious disease and is on the cusp of therapies for rare diseases such as Glycogen storage disease 1a. Single base gene-editing is a nascent technology with the potential to be transformative in genetic diseases caused by point mutations. These are exciting times for medicine and biotechnology with rapid innovation providing therapies for patients.
