WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (October 28, 2020) — On Saturday, November 14, 2020, MassBay Community College will host a virtual Fall Open House to welcome prospective students and their families. This program, typically held in-person, will take place online where visitors can learn more about our programs of study and career paths without leaving their homes.
To help students make the most of their virtual college visits, here are some suggested tips to follow:
- Register
Life gets busy, so don’t forget to RSVP for the virtual event and add it to your calendar. This will ensure the college of your choice emails you the meeting link. You can likely also sign up for notifications about how to register for classes, to join an in-person tour when campus opens up, and to receive information on college activities, athletics, and other ways to get involved.
- Technology
Before you log on to the virtual Open House or campus visit and start chatting, be sure your device is charged, you have a strong internet connection, and, if possible, are using earbuds or headphones. Find a quiet spot and log into the event a few minutes early to be sure you don’t have any technical issues.
- Listen and ask questions
If you already have questions to ask ahead of time, be sure to write them down so you don’t forget. Prior to logging on to the event, grab a pen and paper to write down notes and any other questions that may come up during the presentation. If you don’t get your questions answered, follow up with an email to the college’s admissions office. For MassBay Open House, you can email admissions@massbay.edu.
- Students and alumni
The best way to get a feel for an institution is by hearing directly from current students and alumni about their experiences. What do they like about this college? Did they have challenges along the way? What are their suggestions for academic, personal, and social success at the college? Their feedback could help you narrow down your choices during the selection process and provide beneficial insights for you to learn if you will enjoy learning at that particular college.
