MassBay Student Athlete Finished 30th at National Golf Championship

WELLESLEY HILLS, MA (June 26, 2017) — The Massachusetts Bay Community College is pleased to announce student athlete Nick Barber of Wayland finished 30th out of 92 golfers at the National Junior College Men’s Golf National Championship at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York. He shot 83 – 78 – 77 – 84 over the four day event, for a total score of 322.
 
“Nick hit the ball great all week, and I enjoyed being on the course with him,” said MassBay Director of Athletics Adam Nelson. “His monster drives drew big crowds, as he consistently hit the ball 330+ off the tee. The course was very tough, with fast greens and difficult pin positions. I think Nick did a great job getting himself around, and I know that this experience will help him for next season.”

Barber is a General Business student and this was his first season on the MassBay Golf team. He is only the second golfer in MassBay history to qualify for the National Championship. Barber finished 4th at the Regional Championship at the Chicopee Country Club in a two day event in May to qualify for the National Championship.

“It was a great experience to participate in the National Championship,” said Barber. “I didn’t score as well as I wanted to, but I had an awesome time on the course, and had the opportunity to play with golfers from all over the country. It was definitely an experience that I will never forget, and I am eager to get back there next season.”
