WELLESLEY HILLS, MA (2018) — MassBay Community College is excited to share that eligible college students can now utilize year-round federal Pell Grants to assist students working towards earning their degree. Previously, students who were not eligible to receive Pell Grants during the summer semester may now be eligible for additional funding. This change was recently communicated by the Federal Pell Grant Program, notifying colleges and universities that students are now eligible to receive up to 150% of their schedule Pell Grant.
“It is great to have the Summer Pell program available to our eligible students,” said MassBay Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management Lisa Slavin. “We offer so many courses between May and August at MassBay, and this grant will allow many students to finish program requirements and complete their degrees and certificates faster.”
“Students being able to maximize the Pell Grant in the summer, makes the idea of pursing a higher education much more flexible for me,” said MassBay Student Government President and Student Veteran Charles Santamaria. “Life doesn’t stop at the end of a traditional semester and being able to take classes in the summertime allows me to easily adjust my plan to pursue my academic goals.”
In this academic year, MassBay has disbursed $8,880,820 in various forms of aid to approximately 2,000 students. That includes $4,323,745 awarded to students who receive Pell Grants.
Current and prospective students interested in learning more about Pell Grant funding for summer courses should contact the Financial Aid Office at FinAid@MassBay.edu. MassBay is accepting students for summer and fall courses now. To register for classes visit www.MassBay.edu/register.
